Yesterday: 19 were shot & wounded at Mother’s Day Parade in New Orleans. Among the victims were 10-year-olds.

I never quite involve my work with politics just because I did’t feel the kind of entitlement to police upon other countries’ policies — most of the time I listen and share. BUT it drives me NUTS to hear little kids get gunned down at school and at Mother’s Day Parades. Gun control is something I don’t have mixed feelngs about, even though I am no citizen of this country.

I can’t vote (or even be sure that I have rights to stay); but I can draw pictures. So I sat down tonight and drew this. Tell me I’m not crazy.

We were on our way from Montreal to NYC. We planned to drive straight there, but for some reason decided it was time to find the Atlantic Ocean, to complete our cross continent trip. So we headed east, landing in Rockport. That day we stumbled upon a place called Long Beach, a perfect ending to our trip from BC’s Long Beach on the far edge of the West Coast. Of course, this particular ending was just another beginning.

Getting to Pacific Rim National Park involves a long drive on an extremely narrow and windy roller coaster of a road (for those not traveling by boat or float plane). When you finally arrive at this wild and remote place, and start getting glimpses of the ocean as you hike down toward it, it feels even more special, like you’ve made it to the edge of the world.

These “______ Rights Movements” are getting way too complicated. Yes, there is an extremely large amount of inequality, but how do we teach people about it in a way that is simple and accessible? I have a suggestion: Respect all people. Respect all life. Repeat over and over until it is applied to every being. Respect people of all genders and non-genders. Respect nerds and jocks and queers and the rich. Respect your food supply. Respect your environment. Respect your peers. Respect your enemies. Respect your leaders. Respect your activists. This does not mean you must obey, or agree, or stop fighting, or stop eating meat. Just do all things with respect for yourself and others.

Walking down to this beach felt like coming home. It felt more lived in than other beaches in the area. People had built fires, hung clothes to dry, cooked food. I need to go back.
